Make it simple

Nutritional experts today are making eating very complicated. Their advice implies that you should decide what to eat with your head rather than your gut. Then you get into the grocery, where a million choices seriously interfere with buying food. It's all wrong. What's to be done? How do you plan, prepare, eat, enjoy and then get on with your life?

I think the Asians have the right idea. Eat rice. Eat some stuff to go with the rice, preferably shared. Eat with chopsticks. Drink soup. Like that.

I suspect "variety in the diet" has gone off the scale of good sense. Your body also needs regularity, something it recognizes, something it can depend on. Your mind too wants some regularity--especially when the body's hungry, and is asking the mind, So what are we going to eat? First answer: Rice. First step, make rice. Then look in your fridge, on your shelf, and figure out what will go with it. With some planning you can ALWAYS have something nutritious, tasty, satisfying. By the time you figure out what to go with the rice, the rice will be cooked. Perfect timing. If you eat it with chopsticks you will necessarity fill your stomach at an appropriate speed, and besides it will be fun (even a challenge, a little exercise in manual dexterity, and eye -to-mouth coordination).

Like that. Make it simple. Enjoy life--including your food.
